Team Leaders – Team Members = Unsuccessful Team Building

May 13, 2013 by Diana Leave a Comment

05.13.13Simply by saying  two words,  more than likely, you will notice a change in expression among the majority of the individuals that you are speaking with.  You will notice their faces becoming long,  groans ringing through the air, and possibly criticism. So what are these much greatly misliked words ? These words are team building. Team members have a tendency to to avoid voluntary team building seminars and classes like many try to avoid voting on an issue. You just about have to bribe them and close down all of the spots that they like to go to during seminar time in order to get them to attend. On the other hand, team building is an imperative instrument that will help any organization remain competitive in this aggressive global marketplace.

One of the leading forces driving an increase need for team building exercises is the constant change within the workforce. At a constantly increasing rate, companies are having to allocate their resources with no room for error. Companies simply are not hiring, or they are doing so only after the need is so critical that it hiring can no longer be disregarded. Even then, it can take weeks or even months, before the Human Resources department can add additional personnel and get them completely through  the hiring process.

The need for team building has become very important; simply because the possibility  of additional resources has become very rare. Businesses had luxuries in the past years which allowed them to appoint and dedicate personnel to projects as they came about. In these razor thin times, the only option to deal with new projects is to create teams out of existing resources.

In Corporate America team building is now a critical factor. Specialists from a variety of departments within the company are asked to devote a portion of their time to complete various projects throughout the year. The people chosen to form these teams depend upon the nature of the project itself. Different projects will demand different skills and personnel. People must constantly immerse themselves in these teams and bring their particular skill set and experience to the table and help solve the “big picture” issue.

Team building training is a crucial part in having the quality personnel in place when special projects arise throughout the year. It is impossible to be successful when you only have an option of  just throwing together various people with different skills and expect them to cooperate and come up with a solution to a problem. People have always required addition training to acquire additional skills. Team building training gives employees the tools they need to better work together in high stress, demanding projects and complete them in the time frames allotted.

Team building training needs to be continuous, updated and practiced regularly in order to keep people effective during projects. A training specialist or human resources professional should conduct all team building training as they have the skills and experience necessary to improve group productivity.

The main benefit of coaching was simply the reworking of my priorities to bring some semblance of balance back into my life as it applied to my family relationships and personal well-being.

Creating a Framework for Success as a Sustainable Leader in a Socially Connected Environment
Being a sustainable leader isn’t just a ‘touchy-feely’ term. It’s about creating innovation and collaboration within your environment. It’s about accomplishing goals that matter. And yes, it’s even about improving the bottom line of your business.

Because nothing is sustainable if it doesn’t “increase profitability and your competitive advantage.”
